Abstract This thesis consists of theoretical and experimental studies in the field of light weight concrete to reach proper mix design method for light weight concrete using the local available coarseaggregates of: 1) leca manufactured as light weight aggregates. 2) foamed slag obtained as by product in iron and steel industry. 3) polystyrene pieces cut from plates manufactured as light weight insulating material. 4) no fines gravel extracted from quarries as aggregates from natural sources. concrete mixes are made on the basis of the stated studies and concrete blocks are casted from the mixed concrete of ingredients : coarse aggregated previously stated, sand as fine aggregates, ordinary portland cement and drinking water. for case of no fines concrete the ingredients are no fines gravel, cement and water. the studies include determination of the properties of stated blocks and walls constructed from these blocks in order to determine its use as substitute to red bricks in load bearing and non-bearing walls |
